01 April 2020

RADNOR, Pa., April 1, 2020 – Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE: LNC) is proud to celebrate Stafford Thompson, Jr., senior vice president of Life Insurance Product Management, and Edward Walters, senior vice president and head of Investment Products and Platforms for Lincoln Financial Network, for their respective outstanding achievements, and recognition in Savoy Magazine, one of the nation’s leading African American lifestyle publications. The prestigious list – 2020 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America – showcases an elite representation of African American men and women who have been recognized for their executive and business leadership in national and global-leading corporations.

Thompson joined Lincoln Financial Group in 2018 and is responsible for driving the continued expansion, diversification and enhancement of Lincoln’s industry-leading portfolio of life insurance products. He is heavily involved in the leadership of Lincoln’s seven Business Resource Groups (BRGs) – which are focused on delivering programs that support diversity in Lincoln’s workplace, marketplace and communities. These seven BRGs (African American, Asian, Latino, LGBTQ, People with Disabilities, Women and Veterans) are employee-driven, helping embed diversity and inclusion in the company’s culture from the ground-up, with help and guidance from senior leaders like Thompson.

Thompson is also a former board member and president of the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA). During his tenure as president of the IABA, he increased scholarships to future Black actuaries by 100 percent. He connected the corporate and educational communities to increase professional awareness and support careers of Black actuaries.

“Stafford is an inspirational leader, and well-deserving of this prestigious honor. He has made a significant impact on our Life Insurance business, delivering a broad portfolio of solutions that help our customers protect their financial futures,” said Mike Burns, senior vice president, Life Solutions, Lincoln Financial Group. “Yet the difference that Stafford makes as a leader is felt well beyond our business. He is committed to driving a culture of engagement in the workplace, a champion of diversity and inclusion for our employees and our industry, and an actively involved community member. We are proud to have Stafford as part of the Lincoln team.”

Walters joined Lincoln Financial Network (LFN) in April 2019 to oversee its broad portfolio of products, solutions and platforms available through its two broker-dealers: Lincoln Financial Securities and Lincoln Financial Advisors. Since then, he launched a National Investment Symposium Series to bring global asset managers and financial technology leaders to the LFN advisory community. He also partnered with LFN sales leadership to host the organization’s first annual Strategic Partner Day to align with LFN’s top product manufacturers.

“We are fortunate to have an industry veteran like Ed at Lincoln,” said David Berkowitz, president of LFN. “In just a few months, he has streamlined our Investment Products and Platforms group to not only enhance the resources available to our advisors and their clients, but to also improve efficiencies and offerings that will only continue to grow with him at the helm.”

Walters is a trustee of the Coppin State University Foundation. In addition, he has served as the Baltimore County Commissioner for Fiscal Sustainability, is a founder and past board member of the Greater Baltimore Health Improvement Initiative, was a trustee of the Russell Byers Charter School and was the past chair of the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute.

Selection of the “Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America” begins by examining the landscape of spheres of influence impacting Savoy’s readership, including corporate sector influence, scholastic achievement, career growth, community outreach and recognition. This is the third time Savoy has recognized a Lincoln executive for this prestigious award, and the first time two executives have made the same list.
