Vice President, Workplace Diversity & Counsel Named to Highly Competitive List

RADNOR, Pa., May 18, 2022 – Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE: LNC) announced today that Brandy Smith, vice president, Workplace Diversity & Counsel, is among Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list for 2022. This list aims to recognize 40 remarkable individuals who are making a mark on their region. Smith stood out in a pool of 340 nominees for her impressive accomplishments in her career and in the region.

Smith joined Lincoln in 2012 as an hourly contract employee. In just 10 years, she’s held a variety of roles with increased responsibility. In her current role, as Lincoln’s first-ever vice president, Workplace Diversity & Counsel, Smith provides strategic leadership and legal counsel to drive the implementation and execution of enterprise-wide workplace diversity and inclusion initiatives. She partners with leaders across the organization to drive Lincoln’s work in support of its 8 Actions toward racial justice and equity within the company, the country and the communities Lincoln serves. Prior to her current role, she served on the Legal and Compliance team as assistant vice president, Chief Compliance Officer & Counsel for its group benefits division.

Additionally, Smith served as the leader of the African American Business Resource Group for more than seven years. Smith also spearheaded Lincoln’s Legal Department’s involvement in Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule, a program that measures diversity and inclusion for the Legal Department’s top roles, high visibility projects and outside counsel representation. 

Smith has received several recognitions including National Black Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40, the Philadelphia Tribune’s Women Achieving award and the Rising Leader Collective (formerly known as Women Worth Watching).

Smith graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education, as well as Creighton University School of Law with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Smith is a Board Member for multiple organizations including the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO).
