Promotion to Expanded Role Reflects Strategic Combination of Variable Annuity Hedging and Enterprise Risk Management
24 July 2012

Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE:LNC) announced today that John Rhodes has been named chief risk officer, effective immediately. Rhodes, 40, joined Lincoln Financial in 2009 as the head of Equity Risk Management. He will continue to serve in that role, and his promotion to chief risk officer reflects the strategic combination of the company’s variable annuity hedging and enterprise risk management programs.

In his expanded role, Rhodes is responsible for identifying, assessing and prioritizing risks across the organization, as well as developing the methodologies and processes to measure, report and resolve those issues. He will continue to report directly to Randal J. Freitag, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Lincoln Financial Group.

"John is a seasoned risk management professional and his accomplishments since joining the organization have been significant," said Freitag. "I could not be more thrilled that he is taking an even larger role at Lincoln, and I look forward to the expertise and wealth of knowledge he will bring to the new role."

Prior to joining Lincoln Financial, Rhodes served as vice president and head of Hedging Operations and Performance Management for ING U.S. Financial Services — Retail Annuity. Earlier in his career, he served in diverse risk management roles across market risk, residual risk, and valuation for JPMorgan Chase and GE Capital.

Rhodes is a merit graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program before launching a career in financial services. He also holds a master’s degree in Business from New York University.
