Forty-five students from Morgan State University, Maryland’s largest historically black university, recently participated in a unique career development opportunity at Lincoln Financial Group’s Radnor, Pa. headquarters. Morgan State University (MSU) Day enabled this next generation of talent interested in finance, investments, sales, marketing and computer science to learn more about Lincoln’s business areas, early career talent programs and also network with leaders from areas like Lincoln Financial Distributors (LFD), Investments and Information Technology (IT).

“Deepening our relationships with HBCUs is an important component of our recruiting and talent strategy,” said Michael Kellar, senior vice president and Head of Talent at Lincoln Financial. “It enables us to raise awareness of Lincoln’s award-winning internship programs and early career job opportunities for an increasingly diverse population of students. We appreciate the opportunity to invest in the future of talent through this unique partnership.”

Additionally, in the weeks preceding Morgan State Day, LFD hosted a professional development program for students in Morgan State’s Business School. Over five weeks, these students were paired with mentors from across LFD’s sales channels and with Lincoln’s Training and Development team to help them with all aspects of presentation training – from developing content to perfecting the virtual pitch.

The final round of the competition was held during MSU Day, with finalists competing in a live challenge in front of a panel of internal judges and their mentors. LFD named Christian Martins the winner of the 2022 pitch competition, and Kendall McCollough, Amari Jangha and Seydina Salla as finalists. All four received competitive internship offers from Lincoln to join its summer program.

“I continue to be amazed by the level of talent, creativity and passion that the students brought each and every week to our second annual Morgan State pitch competition,” said John Kennedy, executive vice president, President of LFD and Head of Brand. “I want to offer my congratulations to the four finalists and I look forward to seeing even more from this next generation of leaders as they join our intern class this summer.”

The company looks forward to continuing its partnership with Morgan State and other educational institutions as it invests in the next generation of talent and future industry leaders. For more information on Lincoln’s Internship Development Program, click here.
