Lincoln Financial Foundation recently made grants to New Hampshire nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry, provide rehabilitative services to disabled individuals, support seniors living at home and provide other critical social services. The $90,200 in human services grants were awarded to 13 Granite State nonprofits.
Crotched Mountain Foundation received $20,000 for the second phase of a pilot program that uses theater, dance and music as therapy for youth and adults with disabilities. The residency by Everett Dance Theatre will build a multi-year, interdisciplinary program with the artists for Crotched Mountain and its clients. The first phase of the project, which helps children and adults with significant disabilities refine their independent living and self-advocacy skills, was funded by Lincoln Foundation in 2009.
A $5,000 grant to Capital Region Food Program will help fund the organization’s year-round food distribution program. The Lincoln Foundation support will underwrite a November food distribution of approximately 350 cases of food and poultry to people in need as well as approximately 275 cases of food in January. Capital Region Food Program provides supplemental food supplies to social service agencies and soup kitchens in 18 communities in Greater Concord.
The Friends Program will use a $5,000 grant from the Lincoln Foundation to underwrite its Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP volunteers serve across New Hampshire in local senior nutrition programs and food pantries, provide isolation-reducing companionship to seniors, and help older adults live more independently by providing transportation to medical appointments and grocery stores. The Lincoln Foundation funds will defray expenses for volunteer recruitment and incidental expenses.
Other organizations receiving human services grants:
- $10,000 to Easter Seals New Hampshire to provide expanded job coaching and job placement, transportation vouchers and furniture to Easter Seals’ Concord clients, fostering independent living.
- $7,700 to Centennial Senior Center to arrange safety and wellness programming, conduct formal senior safety assessments, facilitate activities and identify opportunities to build community among residents of the Crutchfield and Kennedy apartment buildings.
- $7,500 to Concord Area Trust for Community Housing to expand its Home Buyer and Financial Success Center, a financial literacy program that increases home buyer knowledge and prevents or resolves mortgage defaults and foreclosures for low- to moderate-income families and individuals.
- $7,000 to Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire for InfoNHKids, an informational website to provide access to multiple services and programs for low- and moderate-income families.
- $5,000 to Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association for its Parent Friend Program, which provides free in-home mentoring to develop effective parenting skills, good nutritional habits and achieve health and economic independence.
- $5,000 to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill New Hampshire for Side by Side for Independent Living, a program that offers workshops for families and caregivers of those living with mental illness.
- $4,000 to Families in Transition for Socially FIT Concord, a program that provides residents of its Concord transitional housing facilities with recreational opportunities that build interpersonal skills and encourage positive social behavior.
- $4,000 to New Hampshire Association for the Blind for its Peer Support Program for people who are adjusting to their blindness.
- $3,000 to Grafton County Senior Citizens Council to provide critical in-home services to elders who are at risk of injury or exploitation.
