Education Opportunity Provided by Local Nonprofits Receiving Lincoln Financial Foundation Grants

Thirteen nonprofits are providing early childhood education, tutoring, mentorship, and college and career readiness training with the help of $330,000 in education grants recently awarded by Lincoln Financial Foundation. An additional $200,000 is being paid toward honoring education commitments, making the total 2017 investment in education $530,000. These grants are a portion of more than $1.7 million in charitable funds that the Foundation allocated for Greensboro in 2017.

Local organizations awarded education grants include:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont to support KinderBuddies, a one-on-one mentorship program for at-risk kindergarteners and first graders.
  • Black Child Development Institute for extended learning opportunities and programs to support improved reading skills.
  • Greensboro Children’s Museum to provide museum field trips and technology programming for children.
  • Greensboro Science Center to support the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Event Series, including the National Science Festival, the Guilford County Science Fair, Robotics Tournament and STEM Teacher Immersion Day.
  • Guilford Child Development to support the Learning Together family literacy program.
  • Guilford County Partnership for Children to support Ready for School, Ready for Life.
  • HandyCapable Network to teach computer coding in Guilford County schools.
  • Junior Achievement for the Mission Possible 2.0 financial literacy program.
  • National Conference for Community and Justice for ANYTOWN, Anytime, a leadership development, diversity and inclusion program for middle school students.
  • Reading Connections to support its family literacy program in Guilford County.
  • Teach For America to train and support Teach For America corps members in Guilford County.
  • University of North Carolina Greensboro for the UNCG Guarantee and Stem3 Outreach programs.
  • YMCA to support the Achievers and Bright Beginnings programs that empower students to succeed in school.
